France is by far my favorite travel destination! I’ve taken over half a dozen trips across France with my hubby.
From dazzling Paris, the City of Light, to the stunning French Riviera, I’m here to share some of the most romantic places in France to visit with that special someone.

1. Paris

Ah, Paris! Nicknamed the ‘City of Love’, Paris is probably the first place that comes to mind when you think about France and romance.
For me, Paris never disappoints. Even simple activities like walking hand in hand along the banks of the Seine or enjoying a picnic in the Luxembourg Gardens are infused with an indescribable charm.
Throw in iconic Paris attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, fabulous art in the Louvre, incredible architecture including the Notre-Dame Cathedral, and picturesque neighborhoods like Montmartre, and it’s a combination that can’t be beat.
If you’re looking for an amazing place for a romantic photo shoot, look no further than Paris! One of the most popular photo spots is the Trocadéro, just across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower. (Tip: come early to avoid the crowds!)
Paris is gorgeous during the day but has a special magic at night. You and your sweetie will love seeing the monuments of Paris all aglow.
The most romantic thing to do in Paris: Take a dinner cruise on the Seine to experience the beauty of Paris at night — especially the Eiffel Tower lights show!
2. Lyon

Lyon is one of the best French cities to visit with that special someone.
That’s especially true if you’re a foodie, as Lyon is known as the gastronomic capital of France. Share your love of food with a traditional meal at a cozy Lyonnais bouchon or indulge in a fine-dining experience at one of Lyon’s many Michelin-starred restaurants.
One of the must-see attractions in Lyon is the stunning Notre-Dame de Fourvière Basilica. Not only is the basilica incredible, but from here, you’ll enjoy some of the best views in Lyon. (It’s extra special at sunset!)
Vieux Lyon is the charming historic center of the city, complete with cobblestoned streets, spectacular Renaissance architecture, and mysterious traboules. Seek out these secret passageways and steal a kiss in a hidden courtyard!
Art lovers will adore discovering Lyon’s famous trompe l’oeil murals, unique painted staircases, and squares with lovely fountains. Don’t miss the Bartholdi Fountain in the Place des Terreaux!
The most romantic thing to do in Lyon: Take a food tour in Vieux Lyon and taste your way through Lyon’s famous dishes. Or shop for delicious goodies at Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse and then enjoy a picnic in the gorgeous Parc de la Tête d’Or.
3. Strasbourg

Strasbourg is the perfect place to experience the romantic allure of Alsace, the region of France bordering Germany. It’s a fascinating blend of the two countries, where you can admire quaint half-timbered houses and savor delicious regional favorites such as flammekeuche.
Strasbourg sits on the Rhine River, and several waterways cut idyllic paths through the city. You’ll want to spend most of your time exploring the historic Grande-Île, starting in Strasbourg’s main square, Place Kléber.
Marvel at architectural treasures such as the elegant Bishop’s Palace (now a fine arts museum) and the spectacular Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Strasbourg. Climb the tower to enjoy magnificent panoramic countryside views with the one you love.
The most charming area in Strasbourg is Petite France. Stroll through this captivating neighborhood and admire the half-timbered houses and quaint covered bridges and towers.
The most romantic thing to do in Strasbourg: Snuggle with your sweetie as you take a panoramic tour of Strasbourg by boat. It’s the best way to see Petite France and the impressive Vauban Dam.
4. Nice

Nice is one of the most romantic places to visit in France, famous as a winter resort town on the French Riveria. The miles of sunny beaches hugging the curve of the dazzling Mediterranean Sea are just one of the reasons you’ll love Nice!
If your idea of a perfect day with your partner is to spend it on a beach, you have plenty of options in Nice! Capture Instagram-worthy pictures of Nice’s epic coastline from the Castle Hill viewpoint.
The cuisine of Nice is bursting with Mediterranean flavors. Sample pissaladière, a thick flatbread topped with olives, caramelized onions, and anchovies. Or share socca, the thin chickpea pancake that is the city’s favorite snack.
Take a romantic walk in Vieux Nice and browse the famed Cours Saleya Marché Aux Fleurs, one of Nice’s top attractions. Pick up a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers, sample local produce, or find a special France souvenir to commemorate your trip.
The most romantic thing to do in Nice: Take a sunset stroll along Nice’s iconic pedestrian boulevard, the Promenade des Anglais. You’ll love the views of the sea and the glittering hotels and casinos of Nice.
5. Amboise

You’ll find the delightful town of Amboise in the heart of France’s Loire Valley. It’s an excellent choice for a romantic couples trip! (Especially if you have your heart set on exploring the gorgeous châteaux of the Loire Valley.)
What’s more romantic than fairytale castles, after all? Take your pick of stunning castles from the Château de Chenonceau (with its graceful gallery crossing the River Cher) to the Château de Villandry (with its incredible manicured gardens).
But don’t overlook the charms of Amboise! Stroll along the banks of the Loire and admire the regal splendor of the Château Royal d’Amboise. Don’t miss the Château du Clos Lucé, where you can interact with the engineering wonders of Leonardo da Vinci in the gardens.
The Loire Valley is also an important wine-making region in France, so find a new favorite and toast your love for each other!
The most romantic thing to do in Amboise: Splurge on a hot-air balloon ride and glide over the breathtaking châteaux of the Loire Valley. Keep your camera ready!
